Catania is the big city by us. It is on the eastern coast of Sicily and about 30 minutes from Sigonella base. The city has about 300,000 people and the Catania airport has flights all over Europe. Nathan and I went to explore for a few hours this afternoon. Traffic was really busy when we got there, but once we parked the car it was really nice to walk around.
The Piazza del Duomo is the city center.
We had a really nice lunch near there.
Nathan got an anchovy panini.
I got purple gnocchi with fresh mozzarella. Both were delicious!
These puppets were all over the city.
Nathan and I agreed that even the not so nice parts of city were fun to explore.
There were fruit stands all over the city. They have a big market there every day from 7:30 to noon.
We only saw a tiny bit of the city, but it's close enough that we'll definitely be back to explore some more.
